Dr Ata Tara is a registered landscape architect whose teaching and practice focus on Geodesign and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) using GIS and visual planning toolkits, including landscape character assessment (LCA) and visual impact assessment (VIA). His approaches to landscape planning and urban design have been recognised through numerous industry awards and inform his design studio teaching, which allows students to explore the potential of geospatial analysis and evidence-based design.

Ata has collaborated across RMIT schools and with industry partners on projects that engage with urban renewal and resilience in Australia and the Asia Pacific region to respond to climatic and societal challenges.

Ata’s most significant projects at RMIT include Climate Resilient Honiara (in the Solomon Islands) funded by UN-Habitat and leading C40 student design competitions in Melbourne.
