Dr Alice Lewis’ teaching and research work with embodied human action as an inescapable constituent of landscape systems and the most abundant resource we have at hand. This work builds from her PhD, completed in 2020, which explored ways of engaging human action as a force of care within landscapes. Alice’s approach to pedagogy builds directly on this research, facilitating collaborative and interdisciplinary learning environments, and aims to cultivate novel practices of care between and for human and non-human environments.

Alice’s recent research collaborations include working with the Material Matters Research Lab (Emily Carr University, Canada) and the ‘One by Walking’ Research Network (funded by The Nordic Research Council). An ongoing collaborative project with colleague Kyle Bush exploring ‘Pedagogies For Future Practice’ has convened national conversations at Melbourne Design Week 2022 and MPavillion 2023, which explored how landscape architectural education can meet the complex and uncertain conditions of the future. An ongoing collaboration with Parks Victoria frames climate-focused design studio teaching.

Recent publications include contributions to The Routledge Handbook of Landscape Architectural Education (2022), Radical Fashion Exercises: A Workbook of Modes and Methods (2023), European Journal of Creative Practices in Cities and Landscapes (2023), and Landscape Architecture Australia (2022).
